What is PA Preferred?

PA Preferred is a state-supported agricultural marketing program.  The State Department of Agriculture launched the PA Preferred program to identify and promote food and agricultural products grown, produced or processed in Pennsylvania.

Who supports PA Preferred?

PA Preferred is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Why is buying local so important?

Buying local is not just a trend or fad. When a Pennsylvania resident purchases a product grown or made in Pennsylvania, they are directly supporting the state’s economy.  By purchasing local products, you are also encouraging and allowing Pennsylvania business to do what they do best- to continue growing and creating great products. When it comes to produce and other food items, you are guaranteed to have fresher, better tasting products.

I am a Pennsylvania farmer. How can PA Preferred help me?

The PA Preferred program is committed to assisting Pennsylvania producers with product sourcing and referrals. Our infrastructure is set up to make sure the producers’ superior products reach the right distributors, retailers and restaurants, as well as food service professionals at businesses, schools, universities and healthcare facilities.

I manufacture products in Pennsylvania. How can PA preferred help me?

We help connect manufacturers of processed products with distributors, retailers, chefs and food service professionals. Thanks to the program’s extensive network of resources and contacts, we also help processors source raw product and refer co-packing and private label opportunities.

I am a retailer and I am interested in selling PA Preferred products. How can I locate products?

To help retailers meet their sourcing needs, we organize and host buyer-vendor shows that bring local retailers and producers together to help increase product placement. By facilitating these connections, we help make the products more accessible to consumers. Retailers are able to go to market quicker and sell fresher products – and that makes a big difference to Pennsylvanians.
